ATKINS DIET PHASES (Part4) – LIFETIME MAINTENANCE

Posted on 20 December 2009 by Diet Expert

The fourth and last stage of the Atkins diet, the lifetime maintenance stage, teaches one that reaching the ideal weight is not the end of the Atkins Diet. This is a unique part of the Atkins diet program as it answers the question that most diet regimen fail to directly answer, the ‘now what?’ question that sits in the back of the dieters’ mind.

By the time one reaches the lifetime maintenance phase, one has already achieved the body type that he has wanted. The dieter’s body has also been trained by now to regulate carbohydrate intake such that the usual urges have now been controlled. The lifetime maintenance phase aims to show the dieters now how one can enjoy their new body without letting up on their discipline for controlling weight. This is lightest and most rewarding phase in the Atkins diet, and lets the dieters choose and plan their own meals.

This last phase of the Atkins diet however still involves that one follow the following guidelines:

* It is necessary for dieters to still eat fresh, organic foods rather than those processed, canned or fast-food style
* Avoidance of sweet, caffeinated or alcohol containing foods or liquids is still of strict implementation
* Continue to still watch fluctuations in weight by weekly weighing oneself. One should be cautious of tipping the scale for more than 3 pounds in a week as it is a sign that one should revert to a stricter diet.

The lifetime maintenance phase also gives the following tips that one should remember:

* Try to experiment and add variety to the meals. Use the recipes and tips provided by the experts and other people who have tried the Atkins diet through the web forums or books.
* Maintain the daily intake of multivitamin and mineral supplements
* Remember that proper diet goes hand in hand with proper exercise therefore one should also try to routinely engage oneself into the habit.
* Watch out for the red flags such as increase in body weight and other signs that your body is telling you.

The Atkins Diet is not just a weight loss program. It also promotes healthy eating habits and generally a healthy lifestyle to the public. By following the diet program step by step, phase by phase, one would be able to not only see physical results, but it would also induce a general feeling of well-being and control of over ones body.
