Dr. Barry Sears, who was born on June 6, 1947 at Long Beach in California, is a biochemist that has achieved fame through his development of the Zone Diet. The Zone Diet is essentially a low-carb diet program that aims to control one’s weight by maintaining balance over the one’s hormone.
Aside from his success from the Zone Diet, Barry Sears is respected through his contributions in the field of science and research. He holds 13 U.S. Patents in the area of intravenous, or IV, drug delivery systems and hormonal regulation for treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Dr. Sears has also worked as a research scientist at the Boston University School of Medicine and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has dedicated over 30 years in the study of lipids.
In 1982, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for his discovery of a specialized hormone called eicosanoids. This hormone, according to his research, shows a great role in the development of auto-immune and cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and cancer. Aside from its discovery, Sears also proposed a way of controlling this hormone through IV drug delivery principles. Because of Sears’ general treatment of food as drugs, this has led to the development of using food as an oral drug delivery system for maintaining eicosanoids. These developments were especially helpful for those cardiovascularly, and neurologically impaired. Because of these contributions, Dr. Barry Sears is considered a leading expert in the field of dietary control of hormonal responses.
Dr. Sears is currently the president of Zone Labs, a biotechnological company that is dedicated to the further development and marketing of his Zone diet. Aside from that, he is also the president of a non-profit foundation dedicated to research, the Inflammation Research Foundation. Both these organizations’ head base is currently located in Massachusetts.
Barry Sears has published a number of books under his name. Some of the titles include The Zone in 1995, which launched his Zone Program; Mastering the Zone and Zone Perfect Meals in Minutes in 1997; The Anti-Aging Zone in 1999; the Omega Rx Zone in 2002; and his latest, the Anti-Inflammatory Zone in 2004, which discuss how silent inflammation contribute to the development of certain diseases such as dementia, cancer, and diabetes to name a few. Because of his expertise and revolutionary researches, Sears has also been a frequent guest in popular shows such as CNN, Today, MSNBC and Good Morning America.
He has often shared that his passion for research roots from his drive to avoid dying from a heart attack like a number of men who died in his family.

Is there any muscle-building supplement that you’d recommend? I wanna try one but I don’t know which is best.

I have read some of your literature and believe your diet to be effective. I am particularly interested in any information you may have developed relating to diet and/or natural supplements as treatment for PSP. My wife was diagnosed with PSP three years ago at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, AZ.
It seems there is little known and less written about PSP and/or it’s treatment.
